Is the extractor itself giving problems, or is the chamber mouth damaged? If the latter, then it's an easy fix in most cases with a chamber ironing tool.

do not see any damage what so ever.

The following is copied from TM 9-280
d. Disassembling bolt mechanism, M2--(1) Hold bolt mechanism in left hand; press bolt sleeve lock in with thumb of right hand; turn bolt sleeve to left sufficiently to release latch lug on bolt head from locking lug on bolt handle; remove bolt head. Hold bolt head in left hand, pressing extractor against a bench, and with right hand push point of a small screw driver under hook of extractor, force downward and up and remove extractor from bolt head.
I believe this is what you need to know.

Herschel , as i look through the TM 9-280 the manual that i'm seeing does not show the
m1922 bolt,i think, they show the m1 and the m2.
in brophys book [the 1903 springfield] page 277 middle photo is my bolt, what i would call the bolt head they are calling the extractor, i think.
so i'm a little confused. can the extractor and bolt head seperate ?

Charles, The information I posted was from instructions for removing the extractor from an M2 Rifle bolt. I apologize as you said your rifle was a 1922. The same instructions apply to removal of the 1922 extractor. The M2 extractor and 1922 extractors differ slightly on the hook portion but they work the same. The extractor does come out of your bolt.

Charles,
I responded to your question on the other forum but will repeat here. The instructions I posted for removing the extractor are the same for the 1922 and the M2 Rifle. The extractor is removable from the bolt head. The extractor shown in the bottom photo on page 282 of Brophy is exactly like the one that fits your 1922 bolt. Other bolt parts for the 1922 bolt are not the same as on the 1922M1 bolt but the extractors are the same. See the chart on page 304 of Brophy.
