Do my eyes deceive me - The Fal rides again!

Strip away the fancy modern bolt ons and this appears to be a "modern" 7.62mm Fal, updated with a possibly revised gas arrangement.

Looks very interesting, SA80 replacement anyone ..

I especially like how the article feels the need to draw attention to the fact it has front and rear sights, it is like a car advert that touts claims the inclusion of front and rear tires is some sort of bonus feature.

IMBEL's development of the IA2 7.62 mm was self-funded after requirements were issued by Brazilianicon Ministry of Defence and the Brazilian Army. It includes Picatinny rails; a cold-forged 389 mm barrel; front and rear sights; flash suppressor; 20-round magazine; and polymer foldable or retractable buttstock. It shoots in automatic and semi-automatic firing modes.

Also, I dislike the inclusion of AR15 buffer tube style stocks on nearly any rifle that doesn't require a buffer tube, a dedicated design will always be better, using a buffer style stock is just being lazy.

So if there are any experts out there on the 551 style of sights, is that a new feed from the "front" sight or is that cable doing something else or has it been put on the wrong way round for a quick photo opportunity by mistake?

That claims to be a MEPRO MOR, they mount this way:

I believe the cable is the on/off switch.

Thanks for that. The sight elevation must be horrendous that far forward, as the 551 has the sight picture closer to the eye relief.
Oh well .................they know what they are doing I suppose??

I would have though they would go for the folding stock option, it appears to be a mid life crisis Fal really, basically a Paratrooper Fal and a Vietnam war era Bitch rifle combined, then tricked out in modern finery! I wonder if the gas system has been revised...

One things for sure, if its built to the same standard as all the Imbel Fals I have seen, it should be a well thought out and put together design..

Personally I am not a fan of HUD type sights, or even red-dots for that matter, they do have their place I suppose, but they are a little too "approximate" for my taste, and the few EOtech sights I tinkered with in Afghanistan seemed to wash out in the sunlight there. I know there are guys that swear by these things but I am an instinctive, Iron sight, or combat optic, depending on range and use school of thought guy. I am certainly not Tier 1 Operator or anything, but I know what I like and what I don't.
