Winchester Garand Gas Cylinder refinishing
Here's my question guys, has anybody come out with a finish that can duplicate the finish that Winchester used on their Gas Cylinders. The one's I've seen are like a plum color. IIRC Winchester experimented with iron plating the stainless then bluing. I'm thinking that the easiest way to go would be Duracoat mixed to match.

the Winchesters seem to be pretty darn hard compared to the other brands, i can blue most stainless steel, however, have yet to get a Winchester to take color,
what has worked in the past, is Bolt blackener available from Eastwoods car restoration supplies.
comes out grey, not black, takes a few applications to get a good look. they do have a website...last time i got a bottle it set me back 35.00 if i remember right.

Thanks for that info, I'll check it out. I have a prewar Win with barrel, need bolt without oil hole, then have it refinished recrowned mounted and check headspace(hopefully I'll find a bolt that will headspace) and that will be it for now for that project.
