Re-barelling an M44?
I picked up a M-44 last week for a good price. Unfortunately after cleaning all the crud from the barrel, it looks like the proverbial sewer pipe. It will barely keep 5 rounds on a 8x11 1/2" peice of paper at 25 meters, and keyholes about half the rounds.
I've seen barrels rated very good condition online for around $50.00. Is it worth messing with? I'd really rather not just unload it on some unsuspecting soul, but I'm not going to keep a rifle that innacurate.

Cheaper to buy a new M44 than rebarrel one. The barrels are on there tight and will cost more than in new rifle in gunsmithing to get it on, headspaced, and fitted if it's off. Not worth it at all. Part out the gun.

Definitely in agreement Homer2 on this subject! Don't bother attempting the rebarrel.

From what I have read it's not worth the hassle, probably better of f buying another one. I have 6 Mosins (different models) and all are good shooters.
