What The......?! Is this a 'Sting' ? You are not a U.S. citizen? And you have a handgun? In NYC? Are you kidding?

NYC is one of the most anti-gun cities in the country. I don't think there is any place in the city that sells components for reloading let alone firearms or a range anymore.

I suggest you Google for firearms dealers New York City and Long Island. Some of them allow you to rent a gun and shoot at their range. Most have their own web sites so you can E-mail them an inquiry.

I believe that you'll have a tough time finding anywhere in New York State that will allow you to fire a handgun. Only under very limited circumstances can a person who does not have a NYS handgun license legally fire a pistol. I don't believe that "Rent to shoot" operations are allowed.
I don't know what the circumstances are in the nearby states (ie. PA, CN, NJ)

I don't think New Jersey is much better then New York City. Maybe in Connecticut you can find what you need.

Pa. has numerous gun shops and there are several private shooting ranges in the Philadelphia suburbs. Check out French Creek Outfitters in Phoenixeville. They have an excellent indoor range and the hourly fees are quite low. They also feature a large gun shop and the staff are friendly and most helpful.

Pennsylvania is by far your best bet for finding a range with a rental. I don't think you are allowed to take brass out of the country anymore, but I've never tried it. Not sure about dies either. Probably easier to get it from a UK dealer, rather than trying to jump through all the hoops to transport it yourself (assuming you are legally allowed to own it in the UK).
I would recommend going further south if you have the time. As others have stated, NorthEast United States is very anti-gun. People that I have met from Europe sometimes have a very slanted view of the US (from media sources) and they often think that the US has loosey-goosey gun laws that allow anyone to pick up a gun anywhere. Not true.
