Recommended Reading on the 1911/1911A1
Good morning folks. My interest in the .45 is starting to surface, and I have enjoyed the pictures and words from the previous threads. Are there any preferred or recommended books/peridicals? I have Joe Poyer's book on the .45 on the way, and have also seen Clawson's book for sale (if it is still available). Clawson's book seems pricey, but I'm sure it is well worth it. Anything else I should be looking for? Thanks for any info and assistance.
Semper Fi,
Joe P

Clawson's books are well worth the money!! There is a smaller collector's guide that is available from Clawson as well... and this one won't break the bank. (I can put you in touch with someone who sells them if you are interested.) This smaller guide is not as detailed as his larger books, bet there is still a ton of info included. There are also reference books by Meadows and Goddard that are well worth while. If you are looking into the .38 Super, Douglas Sheldon has a great book on that 'flavor' of 1911.

+1 on Clawson's small book. For the money you can't beat it!

I second the Recommendation on Clawon...
The Collector's Guide, by Charles W. Clawson is excellent, and it is packed with information. Be sure to look for the third edition. Previous editions are being sold, but the third edition has the most recent and updated information. HTH, Karl

Folks, thanks very much for the info. It is really appreciated. What is the title for Clawson's collectors guide? Could it possible be 'Clawson's Collectors Guide'? Rob Greer, I would appreciate the info re trying to get ahold of a copy. Thanks once again for the quick info.

The full title is "Collector's Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols Models of 1911 and 1911A1" Third Edition. I don't know if he moved over to this forum, but Karl Karash that posted on the old CSP still has it at a good price.
