I was able to see & shoot the new Ruger 5.56 today. It is nicely finished. It has all sorts of rails to add stuff. Accuarcy was so so, a 6" group at 200 yds. However, with a different sighting arangement and perhaps some load development, I expect accuracy would improve. The owner had replaced the factory 2-stage (it has 7 stages, he informed me) trigger with a drop in Timmney. It was set for about 6 lbs & was single stage. It broke cleanly with just a hint of over travel. The rifle tore the rim off several cases, even with the gas selector set to 1, low. Judging from Fired cases, the chamber was not rough although there were some maching marks about the shoulder. Cleaning the chamber did not help. Lightly lubing the ammo resulted in no torn rims. As soon as the lubed ammo ran out, rims agin began to be torn. It has a flip up font & rear iron sights but as the owner had mounted a scope sight, I could not use them. The 16.1" bbl; has a 1-9" twist. I'm told the retail will be $1999 which seems a bit more for comaprable rigs from say S&W.Information
