I have found my father's Military book from his service in the Portuguese army, 1945-1953
They go well together.

That is a beauty, especially the wood. Like the link posted said some were delivered to Portugal and some were comandeered by the Wehrmacht and pressed into service. I can't see how a rifle in this condition saw action in the German army owing to it's high condition so I suspect it was in fact delivered to Portugal especially if it has a matching serial bayonet as these were the only K98k's to be delivered with matching bayonets. Seems to me I saw pics of a '41 Port marked K98 on another forum which was Russian capture marked, mismatched parts except for barrel and action as usual. It was in considerably worse condition. Too bad it couldn't talk.
