I've attached a link to some pictures of the 7mm VZ24 I got from Century Arms earlier this week. I had to do a thorough cleaning. There was a lot of fine silty soil in the cracks and crevices. It cleaned up fairly well and there was a lot less rust and pitting under the wood than I expected. The bore was rusted and it took a lot of work to get it cleaned out although it's still pitted. The bore diameter across the lands at the muzzle is where it should be so it might be a decent shooter if I'm very lucky. If not, it's still an interesting piece of history. Carl

It dosen't look bad on the outside. Barrels still turn up sometimes if the one you have is just too gone. you are right though, nice piece of history one way or the other.

I could not get a group at 50 yards with Federal Classic ammo. I even put one round through the target stand upright. I don't have much hope of improving performance. Looks like a wall hanger. Carl

I understand there are a pile of 7mm VZ24's in Uruguary. They are on the market, no idea who gets them.

Maybe they'll be in better shape than the Brazilians. Uruguay should have a more favorable climate than Brazil for weapons use and storage. Carl

Well, Uruguay doesn't actually have an Army. Thise and all equipment is barely used. No idea if barely cleaned on not. Thye are trying to put together a crazy deal with the buyer supplying new arms. Why they don't just sell off the old stuff anf buy new equipment is a mystery.

I cannot get your pictures (no idea how to get them) but from what you say and I know about the recent Century imports you have a rather rare varient of the VZ 24, called a 'JC Lightened Short Rifle'. This from a CZ catalog circulated in So. Amer. back in the 1930s. It has a "much reduced thickness of the barrel, curved bolt handle, lightened stock and small of the stock consequently being thinned". It weight is 3.9kgs. versus 4080g for the VZ-24.

Rebarreling would ruin any collector value.

Dave, couldn't you get through to my pictures by clicking on PictureTrail Gallery? Yes, I know it would ruin the collector value if I rebarreled it so that's one of the reasons it won't happen. Cost is the other. I am pretty much a fanatic about not altering old military rifles. I just wish I could get it to shoot reasonably well even a 4" group at 50 yards would be great. I have an Israeli K98 in .308 with a similar barrel that will shoot 4 to 6 inch groups at a 100 yards with reduced charge loads. Carl

These VZ-24's are at the Big 5 Stores locally. Really beat up. Pass on this deal.
