WRA 1.3 annealed receivers? Original?
Did WRA factory anneal any receiver heels in the 1.38XXXX ranges, as SA did in the 1.47XXXX range?
Im looking at 2, with very dark anneals..done post park?
Thanks, Andy

My WRA garand has the annealed receiver heel. It is in the 1348*** range built in 6/43. It also has the square cut-out below the windage knob.

annealed receivers
I have checked 22 WRA receivers from serial number 101XXX to 163XXX and found that 16 were annealed and 6 were not.
Also checked 31 WRA receivers from 1211XXX to 2312XXX and found that all 31 were annealed.
Checked 14 WRA receivers beetween 2320XXX and 2517XXX and none in this range were annealed.
Checked 2 WIN-13's and neither were annealed.

I was just thinking about receiver heel failures and realized that I have never seen a picture of an annealed receiver with a cracked or broken off heel. Did this modification make cracking alot less likely than even the later, unannealed post war receivers? I'm sure they must be out there but have any of you seen one?
Also, all of the annealed Winchester receivers I have seen were dipped a such an angle that the receiver leg, trigger guard locking recesses were also annealed at the same time. The Springfields were dipped at a 90 degree angle that annealed only the heal and I have never seen one with the receiver legs annealed.
Would this indicate that Winchester receivers, dipped at an angle, were done by Winchester at time of manufacture?

I have a 131XXXX that is annealed. The receiver shows none to very little wear. Scott Duff recently showed in the GCA journal a 128XXXX that was unissued, flat mint with an annealed receiver.

Are the rear legs of the receiver dipped too?
