Flash hider Mate. He also has the sniper cheek piece on the rifle. My guess, he's giving an Obs/sit-rep, or getting a warning order.

Looks like an M1C in Korea. We did a great piece in the Fall 2009 GCA
Journal on a vet who used one in the Kumwha Valley. He didn't use a flash hider, they affected accuracy on some rifles.
Real men measure once and cut.
