1903 barrel dated 8/38
I have a RI receiver with a SA38 barrel that has the slot for the rear sight sleeve on the wrong side ????? It is indexed correctly, not cut, not shortened, front sight is correcdtly located vertically whats the deal????

Your barrel had another sight base on it at one time. The rear sight base is held in place by two pins, one on the bottom of the base from side to side and one in the rear drilled at the time of assembly and a pin installed to prevent turning. The sight base / barrel assembly is not always the same as far as location of the fore and aft pin location is concerned. Line up the barrel and base and drill a new hole for the new pin. (barrel must be removed to do this).
