    Stevens 620A Trench Gun questions!

    Hello
I am looking at a Stevens 620A and not knowing much about the Stevens I consulted Bruce Canfields book which has very comprehensive and detailed information on the 620. I am confident I can authenticate the shotgun. I will be asking the seller if I can remove the stock and also the take down barrel to check for the serial number on the receiver extension and the stock which Mr. Canfield indicates cannot be seen without disassembly. My question is where exactly is the serial number on the stock and the receiver extension? Should all 620's have the serial number in both places to be authentic/original? Also any other advice would be appreciated. Greg

Hi Greg. Welcome to the forum.

Yes, all original 620A trench guns should have matching numbers on the receiver, stock and barrel. A few other parts also have the entire or a partial serial number.

The stock is numbered on the end that attaches to the receiver. You might have a tough time getting the seller to agree to remove the stock, especially if the gun is original and in excellent condition.

The barrel serial number is on the barrel head in the action bar slot.

All 620 trench guns have a matte blue finish, plum colored bayo adaptor, and ploished blue heat shield.

Guns with serial numbers from about 26,500 and higher should have an "S" marked bayo adaptor.

Do you know the serial number of the gun?

Hi Tom Thanks for the welcome and the information on the 620. The serial number is 25933 and it has the "S" on the left side of the bayonet adapter. Also it is marked 620 without the A. The bbl is serial numbered to the gun but as you mentioned the seller is not going to allow me to remove the stock. The best I can do is $2,800.00, what does that sound like to you? The overall condition of the gun is probably 95+%.
    Thanks
    Greg

That sounds reasonable for a 620 trench in 95% condition. But I'd have to see the gun to be certain. It could be worth more. What's the asking price?

The asking is $3200.00. Do you think it is too early to have the S on the adapter? I should pick it up Friday if all goes well and I will post pictures as soon as I get a chance. Greg

I have a 620 that just over 200 numbers lower, and it does not have the S marked adaptor. Not saying your's is wrong, though. The changeover to the S adaptor may have taken place around this serial number range.

Mine is about 300 numbers higher than the one that you are looking at and it does have the S on it....

fast way to tell a genuine trench gun,
US martial markings are on opisit sides..on a trench.
same side on a riot or trainer.

Well I got the 620 and here are some pictures. Please let me know what you think. I suggested in a previous post that this one rates about 95%, do you agree? Also I pulled the stock and the serial number does match. Thanks for looking Greg
