I shall be going all day Saturday with my family and some friends and have been going for many years. Its smaller and more multi-period than Beltring: Stone Age and Ancient Egyptian living-historians / reenactors spring to mind; although there's plenty of the usual WWII suspects as well.

The trader market is only about 1/4 of the size of the Beltring one, although still worth a trawl round. There's an internal section where the more 'high end' dealers tend to congregate with antique guns, medals, etc.

The Military Oddity is worth going to if you missed something at Betring. Best to buy tickets beforeharnd, the queueing arrangements are hopeless.

Well I'm back. I acquired the following eclectic mixture of militaria:

'Hercules Cycles' made MkII* Bren magazine
Enfield made MkII Bren magazine well cover
Pattern 1939 leather pistol ammunition pouch
1940 MkII AP Kynoch .55 Boys anti-tank rifle cartridge case
Replica Mills No.5 grenade pin, lever, spring and plunger set + centre tube
RAF Pattern 1925 SMLE bayonet frog
Pair of wooden Germanicon S84/98 bayonet grips
Iron 1917 dated Mills No.23 grenade plug

    A reasonable haul.

I have decided that I'm going to look for a Hercules Cycle to restore. We had one as a Company Bike when I was in Malaya. Used by all and sundry but never taken off the camp and left there to rot and die after we withdrew. I'm going to look for one. Ours was painted a gloss khaki and archaic even then! The Armourers shop used to look after it. I seem to remember that the WRVS* lady had one similar too ............ NO, she wasn't the well ridden bike..................
*WRVS was a sort of Christian social worker outfit who looked after the mens spiritual needs and the like. It didn't affect me as while the others were wenching, smoking and drinking gallons of Tiger beer and enjoying the sights and sounds of downtown Singapore during out 1st class trade course, I was sat on my bed bible reading and knitting scarves and socks for the needy and attempting to convert those fallen wenches to the path of christianity and righteousness............

It still brings tears to my eyes....................

Diverting off into the subject of old Britishicon bikes, I have a Raleigh Trent Tourist that my father-in-law bought new on the same day Princess Margaret got married. (6th May 1960) He gave it to me a few years ago and after some TLC it's my main bike. I can mount a child seat on it, on which his grandson periodically gets carted about - usually to a nice country pub we know a few miles away. ;-)

As regards Hercules Cycles, I'm after a 'HC' marked Bren magazine top plate, just in case anyone has one to spare?

I never made it saturday, bit of a hectic day before, so put the day to good use and spent most of it in the workshop and having a sort out.

Another deciding factor was, it would of taken 5 hrs to get back by train, as normal on a Bank holiday weekend they decide to do Track repairs.
