    Problem with safety functioning

What would cause the safety to not function when the bolt is cocked? It only rotates about 15 degrees when the bolt is cocked, and allows the trigger to be pulled releasing the firing pin. It rotates completely when not cocked.

    Thanks for any assistance.

    Do two things:
    1. Remove the bolt and inspect the safety lock notch in the Sear barrel. (The cylindrical piece with the sear notch on the back end of the firing pin.) The safety lock notch is a teardrop shaped cut in the side - look for burrs or something stuck in it.

    2. Remove the safety. On the end of the safety shaft there should by a semicircular (well.. wide pie shaped) extension that engages the safety lock notch in 1. above. See if its broken off; worn down or burred.

A replacement of one of both parts will probably fix things up.

Note: when ever working on a safety test your repairs 9with the gununloaded of course) by engaging the safety - giving the trigger a reasonable pull, then disengaging the safety. If the firing pin drops when the safety is removed without another pull on the trigger more work is needed. perhaps on the sear or trigger.

    Regards,

    Jim
