    Other Bayonets

Here, hopefully are some pics of 3 other bayonets I bought at the same show mentioned in the earlier post. One is a dress bayonet that looks like the blade was dipped into something that caused it to corrode. There are some bad stains on the blade but no deep pits. you can see the line between the discolored metal and the good metal. The makers marks are visible. The scabbard is in pretty good shape and the glossy black paint is mostly intact. I took a frog off of it because I don't think it was original. It was a K98icon frog and the leather was pretty good but it was dull brown like the frogs on the field bayonets I have. It did not have a strap and no sign where there ever was one. I have read about mounted and dismounted frogs.

Another bayonet is a dress bayonet with a longer blade that is in very good shape except the chrome on the last 1/2 in or so is peeled off. There are no makers marks on it at all that I can find. It has the leather washer/spacer but did not have a scabbard.

The last one looks like it was a longer bayonet that was ground down. It also looks as if the scabbard was shortened. The blade looks like it was parkerized after the grinding done.

Anything anyone can tell me about these would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

the corrosion is called filagre corrosion, i would suspect the blade at one time had a heavy grease coat and th ecorrosion occured under this. the cut down is a Turked 98/05 probably although I've not seen them parkerised before and the scabbards usually have a round frog stud not th eoriginal german one
