    P38 Grip Restoration

Anyone have advice on how to restore a set of original 1941 Walther P38 grips? The brown bakelite grips have blotchy areas where the finish is duller than the rest of the glossy finish. Possibly the result of cleaning fluid? The grips are not melted or otherwise damaged. When I oil up the grips, the difference in color is much less noticeable, but I don't want slippery grips. Thanks!

It might well be normal. The bakelite used in some P38 grips was made with wood fibres mixed in if I recall. That might be what you are seeing.

Claven2 may be correct, depending on what you are describing.

I have a matching # P38 and the grips show a blotchy finish with a few areas a little duller.
