Safe carry on a cz 82
Can it be carried with a loaded chamber, hammer lowered...the hammer seems to settle half way down...Then pull of the trigger gets it running....Charlie

thats how i carry mine - its all in what you are comfortable with , the lack of a de-cocker makes lowering the hammer a consideration ,

Oldish thread I know, but something that I've seen pop up here and there.
So long as the pistol is properly assembled, and functions as it should, you can carry the pistol with a round in the chamber, and the hammer lowered, and it will not be able to strike the firing pin without the trigger being fully pulled. This is normal and by design.
You can confirm that your CZ82 is running properly by:
Empty the pistol (check again if it's empty - safety first!).
Now, pull the trigger and lower the hammer, and release the trigger. As you said, "the hammer seems to settle halfway down" - that's because there's a feature that blocks the hammer from reaching the firing pin without the trigger being pulled. With the hammer "down" and the trigger NOT engaged, go ahead and try to push the hammer forward to touch the firing pin. You should not be able to do it. That's good! Your pistol is functioning as it should. This keeps the hammer from hitting the firing pin if it's dropped or struck.
Now, again being sure the firearm is not loaded, cock the hammer back and then pull the trigger and let the hammer settle - this time, keep holding the trigger all the way back. The hammer will settle short of striking the firing pin, but now push on the back of the hammer - it will be able to rock forward and contact the firing pin. In the moment that the trigger is pulled and the hammer flies forward, while the trigger is still pulled the hammer is allowed to contact the firing pin and the bullet will be shot.
If your CZ82, with the trigger not fully pulled, can have it's hammer rock forward and contact the firing pin - you should have it examined by a gunsmith, or if you know it well you should disassemble it and reassemble it while checking for worn parts and proper reassembly.

At one time it was acceptable to carry a Colt Government Model with the hammer down on a loaded chamber. It was no more difficult to do that than it is on a CZ, either a 82 or 83 or 75. It is much more difficult to do so with a Colt Commander with the ring type hammer. Of course with the Colt you have to cock it to fire it.
I found it diffult to actually retract the slide on the CZ-82 that I had, much harder than on a Makarov, mainly because the slide was painted and slick and also narrow.

differance is the CZ-82 is double/single action with hammer down , you just pull the triger to rock and roll , the 1911 must be cocked , i carry that cocked and safty on ,
whole different game plan , if you need it you dont have time to rack the slide or fumble with the hammer [besides racking the slide will eject a live round you might well need ] i love my 1911 but i carry it cocked ,
i carry my S&W M39 as i do the CZ-82 , its ready when i need it ,
