    The 'Bone yard'

For those of you who've flown military aircraft, or just have an interest I thought you might enjoy looking back at these images. This young photographer did a great job saving the info of the photos he took at Davis Monthan in 1968. I was there a couple of years ago and there's nothing left of aircraft of this vintage.
It's great he at least saved them in photos.

WoW! All that aviation history. My age is showing. At 17 I jumped 5 times from a C-119 and from a CH-46 banana. Also existed a C-124 Globemaster and jumped 7 times from C-47 with the Vietnamese Airborne. Great photos.

    Thumbs up

    We had C 119s for jump school in 1968. I later made 3 jumps from a C 46 and about a dozen from C 47s. Also a few from C 123s and a bunch from C 130s - including 5 in RVN.
I've also got 3 jumps from a B 17. Then there is all the civilian puddle jumpers.

I spent 7 or 8 months as air crew on PB4Y-2 Privateers and then about 6 yrs as air crew on P2V-5 Neptunes. I also spent a little time as door gunner on Hueys in RVN.
    Lot of fun years!!!
The Viet Nam Helicopter Crew Members Assoc had their convention in Tuscon about 10-12 yrs ago. We got a tour of DM, but spent most of our time going thru the helicopters looking for birds we flew on, or at least that belonged to our units. I didn't find any, unfortunately!

Lots of old friends. I flew in a C-124 for a couple of ferry flights back around '70. KC-97s flew from my home airbase and I got to tour them. I trained at Blytheville AFB (SAC) which hosted a couple of squadrons of B-52s for Chrome Dome, and I got to tour them as well.

You know you're getting old when those new at the time ships you served on and the aircraft you flew in have all gone to the bone yard or been scrapped.

I don't think anything I started with is still in service. It's all been replaced. Much of what we replaced it with has been replaced too. Towards the end I found myself to be a living history lesson. That's how I knew it was time to go.
    Regards, Jim
