I was beginning to think it was for a flare gun, the way it "swallowed" my .455. The cleaning rod holder dispelled that.

How to positively ID the rig...I understand that officers procured their own accouterments, but is there a formula to ascertain its lineage? My only issues are the "1957" date on the back, and the absurd loose fit for the revolver. Is that the norm? Since it it black, does it belong to a officer in a "Rifle" unit? It has not be altered. Is my '24 Enfield .455 appropriate? If not would a trade for a web holster be equitable?

I know there's people here that can ID this for certain. I think it's something like was suggested, definitley a uniform holster but was it Constabulary? I wonder if this thread would do better in the handgun forum?

It is a Webley open top holster used by the Royal Ulster Constabulary - do a google search and you will see examples of it.

I had a very similar one to this (the wear marks matched a .455 Mk.VI) which I sold some years ago, which was given to me by a friend who said he had been given by an old Ulster Special Constabulary man.

Surprised they would be using .455's at that late date, but if it is a police holster that's possible.
