    East or West German?

I always thought these 2 items, the canteen and gas mask cylinder were post war West Germanicon but I was told recently that the gas mask cylinder was in fact East German.

Although the NVA copied a lot of their style gear towards the WW2 pattern I was under the impression that they always used pouches for their gas masks.

What do you guys think? East or West?

I'm fairly certain the gas mask can is West Germanicon. I used to own one complete with mask when I was a child. It was purchased as inexpensive army surplus pre-1991.

I am 99% sure both are West Germanicon. I have never known the NVA to carry can type. Maybe right after WW2 but they had the pouches pretty quick.

Later the West Germans (don't know when exactly) changed over to pouches as well.

As to the canteen I think the same type was also used by BGS later on, maybe as late as the 1980's.
