Very flat tank by comparison Bob. The high profile of the Sherman worried some of the builders so the tried this. It was overall quite a success. That is, if success is measured by different models and the amout of use it got. As many of the guys here know, any gun platform is welcome when things get rough.

You got that right Bob. Been there done that. The only thing was, on the Centurion, you had to watch out for the muffler. It was exposed and the size of a barracks box.
And with all of them if they had quick action, they would fire without warning. That was shocking!
What was it the Germans said? A mile driven is a mile gained?

My father-in-law tells of sleeping on the engine grates on a Patton for warmth. I guess the Cromwell muffler goes beyond that!
