Way to go Hilary, you are doing something I had planned to when I graduated from H.S. in 1956 and never did. A buddy and I were planning on joining the Navy when we graduated and my dad talked me out of it, guess he didn’t want me to follow in his footsteps (he was career AF). I have regretted that decision ever since.

Welcome back Charlie and please pass on my thanks to your daughter from a group of folks in N.Z that are very thankful for what the U.S Navy did for us. Mike.

Good to have you back, Charlie! I'm sure I speak for others as well as myself when I say that your insight into carbines has been missed around here.
Kudos to your daughter, I wish I could get mine to join the US armed forces. I wanted to join the Navy when I got out of high school but my older brother talked me out of it. Although I cannot complain about my career path since, I'll never be able to see and do what I could have back then.

The Navy and Air Force have always had the best military schools to send their new recruits to. It's just that the Air Force tends to take better care of their personnel than the rest of the services do. For example, Air Force personnel get an additional housing allowance when "forced" to live in Army barracks.
My dad spent 30+ years in the Navy and I put in over 20 years in the Army. Neither of us have regretted a single moment of our military careers. Congrats to parents who have raised their daughter to serve their country - not to mention such a good shot! And congrats to Hilary for making such a decision. Best of wishes for your military career!
