breaching washers or shimstock should never be used on a squared threaded barrel... the rifles you listed, have a V thread, and the V has most of the crush...on a square thread barrel. the shoulder takes most of the crush,
Krag, 1903, P14, 1917, Garand, 1928 SMG, Winchester M54, Jap Arisaka, all have sqaure thead.
i dont recomend using shims or washers on any barrel to make it fit. there is a fix for that barrel, its a lot of work, but can be done..

So how much work, and what would be the cost???
I just hate this barrel being a wall hanger????
(I know it would never be right, but would it be cost effective?????)

On another note: Chuck I got the aforementioned SC barrel, very very NICE...cleaned right up!!!!!
If there are any more where that came from, let me know, still have some budget left this month...

You did get very good advise. Return that barrel. Let the seller fix it, then he can re-list it. Buy the time you have gunsmith work on it you will have $400.00 into worthless barrel. Think about it.
