Nothing wrong with SA 7.62mm Brens as long as they are sold as such and not as L4s as the well known dealer talked about above is doing. He has been told by at least 6 people I know of. The standard FN FAL mags of 20 and 30 rounds will fit the SA conversion but as Lester has said, they often welded 2 mag bodies together and soldered the springs together to make a larger capacity mag. Kev G has some excellent photos of this conversion.

Lester, any ideas what parts they are destroying on their gun, one of my SA 7.62mm guns has a filed down L4 mag (It was done by someone else when it was legal in the UKicon to shoot Semi Auto FN FALs and SLR) and thats it. I actually have a 1940 Inglis Bren Mk1 converted to SA 7.62 and then bodged back to .303 standard look by a UK dealer, another attempt to flog an upopular variation.

Someone is filing down an L4 Britishicon mag to fit an S/A Bren and has ruined a lot of rare and good parts whilst finding out you can't do it! In spite of my advise to stop. I am told you need R1 mags? Often two are welded together.
Lester, Funny how quickly bad news gets around with regards to this 'Disliked Dealer'!....I have heard Nothing but BAD news about him. I have dealt with him in the past on Two occasions. I wouldnt buy a Bent nail from him myself!!!
I am utterly amazed at how he has made so much money with the Lies & deliberate attempts to make stories up about some of his stock. Simply for the money, he is not looking ahead at the big picture. & hopefully, one day it WILL all catch up with him. I have spoken to other dealers & told them of my Stance on NEVER EVER buying ANYTHING from him ever again! They agree, but they still trade with him knowing full well his reputation Etc.
They are only interested in Bussiness & say his money is as good as anyone elses! No Morals or Scruples it would seem. They put aside thier personal feelings towards this 'Dealer' & do what ever they need to for a deal.
I have seen stuff on his stall as I have walked past at Fairs. That I would DEARLY have loved to have for my own collection. I have not even picked any items up for a look. Why? Because I would NEVER put another penny in his pocket from ME!
He will say & do anything for a sale. REGARDS LESS of the comebacks! His God is Money!!!!! ( I have seen & heard this for Myself in Person in the past)

The SA Mag Catch repair I did, was because he told the customer he would send him a replacement catch! There are NO South African 7.62mm Spares that I know of in the UK!!!!! Hence the repair. I am told it is not the only LMG he has sold with a broken catch. Why? Because of the way the stuff is thrown in the back of his Car! It's simply = Stock!.........

I was hopefull that his bad 'Bussiness Practices' would finish him off. No so it would seem, because all the time you have collectors STILL buying from him. He will continue in the vien that he always has!...................

Tankhunter. This disliked dealer also has a set of Waffenette stamps. He snided up a so called German captured Brengun. The dents under the stampings proved the Germans DID NOT put the stamps on. Also seen "genuine" German K98icon sniper rifles fitted with airgun telescopic sights. This dealer has other buisinesses as well which should also be avoided.
I am pleased to report, inspite of my good advice, this dealer imported a lot of German D/A guns. When presented to the Birmingham Proof House. The guns were detained. Further expensive D/A work was required by a well respected gunsmith in Essex. The chickens are flying home to roost!

I've a Genuine captured Bren and there is only one Germanicon stamp in a very dicreet position so if you find one that has numerous German stamps, be suspicious.

Surely the probable answer to yoiur barrel querie has been answered in some depth over the last 3 pages. If not, ask some specific questions.

As for the value of your barrel, then there is only one TRUE method of finding out and that is to auction it. It's called supply and demand and there isn't a shortage of genuine 7.92mm barrels out there. The auction price you get is its value. There is another method of course and that's YOU set a price on it. If it's too high, you'll be deemed to be ripping people off. Too low and you're ripping yourself off. Any other method is the economics of the mad-house

Knowing that it is possible and there is sufficient material to convert any ,303" Bren barrel to 7.92, then anyone needing one can have a barrel bored out - after all, it's already deep hole drilled - rifled in an instant and chambered easily. I know it sounds a bit glib, but that's an engineers answer to its value

What market are you in on Earth? There are some international restrictions these days on moving machine gun barrels around the planet. The location will have some impact on possible value. Is it a converted .303 barrel or a true 8mm pattern? This answer will determine the pool of likely purchasers and a degree of value... a true 8mm will require a Bren specifically set up for this caliber (most are still Canadianicon built full auto guns)... a converted .303 can be used by any Bren owner (semi auto only or full auto) that wants to modify their standard Bren's mag well and purchase a few additional parts that are plentiful at the moment. Some pictures of the example's breech face and markings might make definite identification a bit easier for the forum members. A new .303 barrel can be had right now in the US for $75.00 plus shipping. Not many auctions for such 8mm items so finding comparables is hard... and the best sources of active sellers and purchasers in the US - to query on market prices - would be on machine gun related forums. I don't have any thing to do with this trader. He tried selling me a 1977 Lafiette Mount for £1500 , no optics. Got a new H&K 1977 G1 mount with optics, for £156.00 . The reason I advised this"Trader" about the lack of Germanicon deactivation standards. Was to avoid another dealer friend of mine getting defrauded. The "Trader"was selling on the D/A guns for cash prior to even ordering them.
Although there are heated discussions on this site about gun matters etc. It is only discussing the hobby. I flag these matters above up to warn the genuine collectors and dealers of certain sharp practice. I don't like to see people ripped off . Educate the buyer to beware! Thank you for your support in this matter.
