Type 3 band cut down or type 2???

My feeling is it has been cut down. Grind marks all around rim. Wish I was wrong, I need an Inland M2 band. Gene US Gi M1 Carbine Type 2 Front Band | eBay

I think you are right. A poor photo always makes me suspicious. I wonder why it is painted black? Israelis painted many of the carbine black like Sten guns.

Look at both the inner and outer bands. The inner is recessed just a bit. If this was a type three cut down then both the inner and outer bands would be flush. Looks like a 2 to me.

    The inner band,
Look at the edges of it.... no rounded off radius to be seen.
IIRC there was only 1 or 2 Type II bands with the hole thru the top. These were marked........ but can't recall the markings, other than letters (?)

I had a cut down type III that they slightly rebated the inner band. The difference is that a type II will be a very clean cut. This one looks very rough compared to the outer band. I agree with Charlie777.

It is a type 2 band. Most type 2 bands are unmarked. But it looks like some rust coming through the paint on it.

When I first saw it, I thought it was cut, but I see the differences now. It looks like it went for 59.00 dollars too...quite a deal!

Look what I just found!! Barrel Band, Type 2, w/o Bayonet Lug, (Modified Type 3)
Zoom it in, has same grind marks. $59.01 - $24.95 = $34.09 profit, Gives me an idea. I'll even offer free shipping. Gene

I would question the color of the rust

a 65+ year old part would have rusted and turned a much different color w/patina. This looks fresh. If it was going to rust, it would have done it a long time ago.
