A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). I think it's a niche market that no one's picked up on. They could have a whole line of obsolete, military equivalent projectiles in many different calibers. With supplies of decent original military surplus either drying or dried up, reloading is the key to the future shooting of these old rifles. A good quality reload will always outperform original ball ammo anyhow IMHO.

I think Hornaday is on the ball on the loaded ammunition end with there Garandicon offering, Arisakaicon etc..I am not only impresed with the ammo but they seem to be making an honest effort to keep a lid on their prices. The prospect of Mk7 projectiles might just be the push I need to dust off the reloading gear. Thanks for all your efforts

Well, I got a fast response that I transcribe below - verbatim :

    "Hello Jean,

Not sure what was said, but we have no active plans to make such a bullet at this time. We are always willing to make a custom run of a bullet provided the volume is there and we have the press time to spare. If someone approached us and ask if we WOULD make one, we probably said yes. Not sure if that is where this is coming from or not, but we for sure are not working on it nor do I see it on the "near future" list either.

Sorry someone got your hopes up, but who knows - maybe someday we will have one for you.

    Sorry,

    Matt"

What shall we make of it ? End of the line or still a tiny glimmer of hope ?

I reckon if they could be persuaded to do 7,35 Carcano bullets, then .303" MkVII bullets ought to be a no brainer. I wonder what the minimum order quantity would be? Do a group buy.

Aked the same question to Sierra this morning and just got this reply:

I am sorry, but we have no plans to at this time. We will always consider a custom run if the volume is there (usually 250K-300K), but we have no plans to make one for our line at this time.

Not to say we never will, but nothing is being looked at right now.
    Sorry, Matt
    Regards Simon

I just had an email from the ballistics technician, (Rich Machholz), I've been emailing with at Sierra. He wants to know if I'm serious about a large run of these projectiles. I told him to throw out a quantity and costs and I'll see. It would seem they're willing to get on it but only if they have a bulk deal in the works. I can tell you right now that if it's 50,000 bullets plus tooling costs, there's no way I can foot the bill alone. The big question: Does anyone want to put their money where their mouth is? If 50 people bought a 1000 each, problem solved.
