    Winchester 1917 30-06 Parts

Hi, I am a new Member and am looking to Restore My Grandfathers 1917 Winchester 30-06, he brought it back from the war, and it was in many pieces. Over the years and the moves from home to home most of the pieces have been lost. So this is what I have.

the Barrel in Tack with Bolt and Sites and trigger with sear. that's it So would you be able to point me in the right direction to purchase the parts I need to restore this?

I look at this as a great project for me and this would look really nice next to his Flag!

    THanks for your time

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. The barrel is still attached to the receiver?

After that its some and some. Stock is going to be hard to get an original. Upwards of $250 for an authentic one. Boyds makes reproduction I believe.

After that is a combination of Internet (Gun brokers has many parts as do the other auction gun sights) and the following

    Springfield Sporters, Inc.

Springfield Sporters, Inc. This is the link to Springfield Sporters, Inc. They have the best prices and they will also sort by manufactor, for a little more. I think it will pay you in the long run to buy the parts with the Winchester "W". Most of the parts I'v got from them were parkerized. WW II recondition (NOS) old new stock parts. Numrich Gun Parts will send you what ever comes out of the bin. Sarco also has parts. ebay has had several Winchester stocks there is on on right now. The bid is up to $300 with 17 hrs to go. Good luck

With e-bay you will be a ble to more closely match the finish of the parts you buy with your barrel and receiver. You will see parts that are blued, WWII grey parkerized, and black- end of WWI parkerized. I would suggest buying the book by C.S. Ferris, The U.S.iconModel of 1917. (I think that's the title. I misplaced my copy which is usually by my computer.) Also make a note that some parts are not interchangeable between the british P-14 and the 1917 and some sellers and buyers donot know the difference. If you see a part you have questions about, ask here. All of the parts made by the three manufacturers for the U.S. 1917 rifle are interchangeable. When the U.S. rebuilt the rifles the armorers used what ever part was on hand so most complete rifles that you see for sale are mix masters of parts. The closest I have to an all original rifle is a Winchester Lend-Lease rifle that had about 95% winchester parts on it when it
was imported back into the country.
    Welcome to the addiction.
