ok I've never seen these before. anyone got any info on them.

the front screw looks to have been replaced by a nut and bolt , there is no thread in the handguard.
there is a hole to the rear top of both handguards that looks like it would take a self tapping screw to hold the two halfs together.

Andy, I would say this was from an 'LMG' variant of some kind. IE: Like the Aussie L2A1 Automatic Rifle. Though the lack of heat expellation holes is a mystery!
From which nation, well. that's anyones guess also!.......

I do think something fits over the top of these hand guards,(mounting points around the front screw and at the rear cut away)
as you say could be a bipod for the “LMG” type

But the rear cut out is quite large and gives good access to the rear of the barrel / front of the receiver.
Under slung grenade launcher??

That is a bit strange... I haven't seen anything like it to date.

Skiprat, Can you post photos of the inside of the handguards or email me BIG photos, just wondering if there are any markings on the inside and how they are constructed.

there are no markings at all... they are made from injection moulded plastic with a smooth surface finish there are no metal parts.

some of the internal ribs have been milled away, in a couple of places (near the rear opening) these ribs have been hacked away, leaving a poor finish.

they did come with an asortment of "tat" from a UK dealer that did have some Aussie L2A1 LMGs

Afternoon all, got me stumped, never seen handguards like that before....and I thought my New Zealand L1 eight slot plastic was odd!!!

Just checked my fal books, volume one two and three....nothing like it recorded in there!

One thing though, give your barrel a good clean thats a rather nasty looking blockage you have there.

Are they hard plastic or tactile finished?

hard plastic. like the issued L1A1 black abs ones (but not as stiff) and smooth outer finish.

This is just a thought mind you, but have you considered the possibility that these handguards were made specifically for de-activated rifles by whatever firm it is that did the actual de-activation work? It seems to me to be a real possibility given that there is a witness window over the barrel weld.
