    7.62x54r spam cans

I ordered the 880 round case of 7.62x54r ammo from Classic Firearms & they came today, is there a way to know whether they are Russianicon or Bulgarian and a way to find out how old they are. I called them today & they said they have no way of knowing, thanx-

Nonsense. Bulgarian ammo has the little circle with the 10 inside on the can. The date will be prominantly displayed on the can. For example, go to Ammoman link below, click on the green spam can picture. Its Bulgarian due to the circle 10, and was made in 1971 by the dates shown. However, the ammo in the unopen crates shown was made in 1975.

    AMMOMAN.com. 7.62X54R SILVER TIP 148 GRAIN RUSSIAN

Classic Arms is Bulgarian due to the circle 10, and what is pictured was made in 1971. The customer picture below in the crate is dated 1972.

I think only the Bulgarian is pictured at the Classic Arms web site but they have both Russianicon and Bulgarian ammo on the same skids and they are just taking what ever is next on the skid and shipping it out. But as Gun Surfer if the 10 in a circle is on the can it's Bulgarian. No circle 10 then it's Russian.

Silver tip is light ball approx 149 grains (later on no marking), yellow tip is heavy ball about 182 grains, factory and date are typically stamped on heads. Very common Russians are Factory (or Plant) 60 and 188. Below is a little info on "Factory 188":
