Ok so I am in a local materials supplier for my company and the Mgr. asks if I heard about the buck that was taken behind our shop. I answer no when he asks if I would like to see a photo. I wish I had not looked. 150+ class buck with beautiful massive dark horns. Taken less than 300 yds from the window I am looking out as I type in a relitavly urban location. I will try to get a photo to make everyone else who slaves away on deerstands and food plots fell as depressed as I do.

I was out Saturday with the P'53 Sergeant's Rifle, but only saw the tiniest bit of a deer. Which is better than previous "Primitive Weapons" hunts! Have yet to take a deer with a front loader. But the Chickamauga type conditions this early keep things interesting. One never knows what's going to appear almost on top of you! Will transition to a .41 Mag revolver for a while, but did check zero on both the usual 20" barreled AR and a fixed sight Type 99. The T99 shoots fairly well at typical hunting distances and is surprisingly light and handy in "as issued" condition. That big inverted "V" front sight is good when in the brush, as found out previously when hunting with the T99 sniper.

On Sept 25th. a moose was taken in the Yukon that might be a new record..262 +. The hunter was using a Lee Enfield 303. Wish I had a nickel for every animal taken with a .303.

Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

As promise earlier here's a couple pics of the sportered 1909 Argentine along with a pair of bucks I took with it this morning plus one of my old jeep. I was watching a doe grazing down the fire break about 10to 6 but was unable to tell if it was a yearling or adult due to the low light. About the time it got light enough to tell she was grown along comes Mr. Cowhorn buck with romance on his mind and she takes off through the pines, evidently she's not in the mood. Mr Buck stops just inside the first row of trees appearantly trying to decide what to do next so I send one his way in between two of the trees. I see him take off and from the looks of it I missed. Well a few minutes later out comes a yearling to graze and right behind her was the buck, or so I thought. Anyway the yearling runs back in the pines and the buck comes to a halt just a few feet from where he was when I shot the first time. I take another poke at him and down he goes. Uh huh, I got you that time ole boy. I get him loaded up and head to the house following the fire break around the other side of the pines and when I round the curve there lays a dead deer in the road. I didn't miss after all.

Our deer seem to have up and moved to South Carolina. Have pulled the trigger only on a running coyote. And missed at 15-20 yards! Twice. That or it just didn't go down, but it was like shooting blanks at a deaf varmint. Weird year in the woods. Spending lots of time there and not in front of the computer. So....
Anybody else field testing their milsurps in the woods?

I don't recall ever seeing a living coyote that wasn't running. They always seem to be in a hurry, they don't know where they're going but there's no use in being late. Don't feel bad JM, I've missed them not much further away than that with buckshot. Down right embarrassing when there's folks watching.
Anywho, here's a few more that attracted my attention since my last update:

Over here, we have a minimum calibre for shooting deer, 7mm ( iirc ) ... so most milsurps will be sufficient.
No deer where I shoot but I made sure I had more than 7mm ... try 590 !! This is the result. Overkill??? mebbe Still hunting with milsurps !
