    Vietnam M16A1 Retro build

Almost Finished my Retro M16A1 Build.
It's mostly retro parts from 1967-1979 M16A1 but I tried to keep close to the early 1967-68 with the three prong flash hider.
I have the Original M16A1 grip but I have not installed it yet.

I read that they requested colt to change the flash hider to the "Birdcage" style, they claimed that the three prong one got
caught up in twigs and small branches

The Lower is a Civilian AR-15 by Aero Precision semi-auto but the design matches the original, the Butt stock currently is a
A2 with trap door, I have the Original A1 without the door but I don't have the tube, spring and plunger for it yet.

This is a picture with the three prong flash hider

This picture is with a birdcage flash hider like the later M16A1

Even Got original Magazines to go with it.

    Even the Original Ammo

I used to have some of the early mags around that were marked .223. I was also told there were three changes went together, prong changed to birdcage, forward assist was added and no trap butt changed to trap. I should think your no trap butt should fit the tube you currently have on the rifle.

I tried but the one with a trap door is a little longer.

The M16icon did not have a Forward assist or Trap Door, the XM16E1 had the FA, No Trap Door and included the three prong FH, the M16A1 (early ones) still had the three prong FH, FA and No Trap Door but ultimately they converted over to the birdcage and Trap Door Butt Stock as well.

Yea, I know, the one I have is just so much more conformable and the hard plastic 1960's grip, but I will install it this weekend.

Half of the Colt 20 rounders I have are the small numbers. Recently I bought four Colt 20s for a song. One was a small number. I wish I had a waffle mag!

    early magazines

    Attachment 53412Attachment 53413Attachment 53414

I believe this is the first drum made for the AR180/18 and AR-15

I have also seen the four pocket pouch for the waffle magazines

I would have thought by now that the early 25 rd magazine repro would have been made

I was able to use the Extension tube from the A2 Stock, and I installed the Grip so does it look better now?
