6 digit numbers are Inland? 7 digit numbers starting with 33xxxxx are Saginaw S.G. ?? " Union Switch & Signal made 50,052 receivers for NPM. However US&S was late in it's deliveries and to date no documentation on breakdown of ser. no. assignments for US&S-made receivers has been uncovered." per Ruth & Dunn 2009. I'm sure others have better info. GK

Well, if you give us the actual serial number... It will make it much easier.

I think your serial number starts with a 4 and should be 4,3300XX? If so the receiver was made by Union Switch and Signal. The U on the heel of the receiver was to tell who made the receiver for National Postal Meter. The carbine was made late in 1943.

If someone doesn't have carbine reference books, there are a number of sites you can visit with information. Just type M1icon carbine into your browser search. Here's one.
