    Tom, The gun is a WW1 trainer, has the correct nickel steel barrel but might have been replace or blued.The serial number range is 171xxx would have to look in safe for exact number.
    It's the only trainer i have in my collection ,not big on them .With the correct 20'' nickel barrel i'll have a WW1 US marked riot gun.

    Very cool!

    Are there any martial markings on the barrel? If no, then it's marked just like the hand stamped 97 trench guns.

    No barrel markings.Jack Morse has the only other marked 12 trainer that i know of.
