    U. S PROPERTY marked M60 H and R Reising

    Hello,

I have a nice litely used M60 Reising. It has two oddities I believe.
    1) Just after the "U.S. PROPERTY" is "XM60SF". It is in the same font as the U.S.iconProperty mark... I never seen mention of model XM60SF.
    2) it has no provisions for a sling. In their place are two wide base standard screws who s parkerized finish matches rest of gun. Was there a sling free or slim less model. Where ever this ended up it lead a nice life. Bore, finish, bolt, and wood are in great shape.

    Thanks for any information.

The first response would be a fake as those are not standard markings .
HOWEVER , my Marine raider buddy has confirmed that several officers on Guadalcanal were carrying M60 semis while there .
I would love to see pictures and know the serial number of this .
I've had a M65 suppressed .22 used in the Pacific for years now , and I've had no luck verifying it's use there other than a couple of people's recollections .

Okay, I took 34 pics and will start uploading (If I can figure it out, first time for posting pics). These Model 60s were also used by factory guards, police, etc. during the early part of WWII. The Marines and Navy supposedly used only a very few as most were Model 50 and Model 55's. I have two Model 65s, This Model 60, one Leatherneck and one Model 50 barrel and stock. This gun was probably in inventory but never saw any real action as it is in too good of condition. Generally the XM is a experimental designation but I don't know if all 1700 were marked that way as this is the only Model 60 I've personally owned.

As mentioned early there is a hand stamped US Property mark and XM60SF on the receiver and XM 60 stamped on the barrel end. All are in the photographs. The serial number is photographed to and is 1457. Thanks for looking, only 5000ish or so Model 60s were made and only 1700ish were bought by the US government. This one was purchased in the later 90's at a gun show. I have never shot it but it appears to function. The magazine pictured is the one that came with it. I have accumulated four more since then, all 20 rounder's. Have asked around for years and never gotten a definitive answer on this bird. Might not ever get one. I am considering selling all my Reising stuff as my interested have moved to another directly but have not settled on this gun yet. Anyway comments appreciated. It's a nice example regardless.

I have number 27 and based on it, the front sight is a commercial replacement and receiver rear sight screw in eye piece is a non factory replacement. Very nice gun anyway.
