    M1905 bayonets

I posted this on the CSPicon forum but thought I would also post it here for more visibility.

I have several M1905 bayonets and all but one are SA. All the SA's have a prominant blue line ahead of the guard but the RIA does not. I went looking on the internet for RIA bayonets to see if this was a trait of RIA or if the RIA bayonet I have, has the blue worn away. The rest of the handle metal is a plum brown to original blue color. I could not find one RIA that showed a blue line ahead of the guard like the SA bayonets.

Can anyone verify this as a production trait of RIA or not?

    Thanks,

    Robert

early M1905s blades were polished in the white , but the hilts were blued includeing a short distance up the ricasso , in WWI the entire bayonet was blued , untill 1918 both springfeild and rock island started parkerizing ,

i think what you are noticeing is simply the differing techniques between the two arsenals , i no longer have my early SA , but i recall it being blued noticably down the ricasso , my RIA matches your description ,
