The question crosses my mind what is the Parachute Regiment using for boots for parachuting now that the quick lace boot are standard issue? It seems to me the quick lace hooks might be a snag hazard.

Can't see it, when we had a guy with his feet tangled in his lines...it had nothing to do with his boots specifically. His feet, yes...mostly because his exit was upside down.

Blessed with a variety, however, the brown HAIX Combat High in Goretex is favoured as the best ankle support and keeps your feet dry.

Interesting you mention Matterhorns, I just threw out my old set from 2001. Seems years of ground pounding has changed the shape of my feet enough that what once was a velvet slipper in my 20's is torture like Japanese foot bondage in my mid-30's.

It can to some extent but also they just don't last forever...and the components breakdown.

It's got to save a lot of money using the Skyvan instead of a Hercules for the more basic jumps Gil.

Agreed, it beats the balloon anyway with the same amount of lads jumping.
Peter and others will remember the dulcet words " Up 800 five men jumping".
Not my favourite pastime, as it left you no time to recitfy any issues that "could" occur like badly packed chutes at that height

I preferred the Fort Bragg approach of parachute towers, but hey ho who am I???

Would that be the old barrage balloon at Hullavington Gil, just down the road from me.

I wonder, is there a psychological difference between doing your first jump from a tower or a balloon do you think, for some reason I think I would prefer the balloon..
