I have just bought a 15X unertl for a good price. It is mechanically fine but probably went a few years without being wiped regualrly with oil. It has small specks of surface rust here and there. A piece of Scotch-Brite cleans it up, but also removes the thin blue finish.
I know I can send it off to Parsons scope service, and I may do just that, but I want to know if I could use some sort of cold blue and be reasonably satisfied with the results. I got a good buy on the scope, and a professional job would definately be worth it, but I'm looking into options of a DIY without taking the scope apart. I just got this Unertl, and really don't want to spend any more, or wait for turn around at this time.
Anyone have experience bluing a vintage scope?
