Hello,
I've been considering buying a 1903A4 to collect and possibly shoot competitive. I see there are reproductions out there by about three companies and not badly priced considering what originals are costing. I had a person email me and said he had one: the serial number is within the first block of numbers, re-barreled with a R.A. barrel dated 2/44, C type stock (not original), correct scope mount w/ 7/8" rings and a Lyman Alaskan scope. Here's the kicker; the rifle at one time had a receiver sight installed. It has (2ea) holes on the right side of the receiver. It has since been removed and is plugged; not welded up though. The individual who offered to sell it has a price between a reproduction and an original. What do you all think? Is it worth considering? If so, would it be in the same category as a reproduction? I appreciate your input. Thanks for looking.
