    CMP Field Grade Winchester

Hello, I just got my Rack Grade Winchester M1icon garand from the CMPicon. Here are some pictures of it along with the drawing numbers. I am no M1 Garand expert so if anybody has a clue what these mean other than a Springfield Repair, please give your two cents. The Barrel is a 1963 SA. Is this common? I would have guessed they would have stopped making barrels in the late 50's.
    Thanks,

Look at the 5th picture of the hammer nose it looks like it could be broken or maybe its the angle of the photo.

You have a typical M1icon that last went through a rebuild in the mid 60's. No effort was made to match parts during a rebuild, so that's why you have a lot of Springfield Armory (SA) parts.
New barrels were made by SA up through the 60's and possibly into the 70's. I have an M1 with a 1966 barrel date.
I would recommend replacing the op rod spring with a newly made one. Don't forget to grease it with rifle grease.
Looks like you have a nice rifle. Shoot it and enjoy it.
