    Is it a Match Rifle?

    Hi Guys

Could you please tell me if this rifle is an authentic match rifle.

    Date is 10th Month 1921
    Star Gauge Mark on muzzel
    Lyman long Slide Sight
    No 1231680
    Spring Field Armoury.

    Above all shoots damn good!

    Thanks for the help!

May have been at one time but not as it is now. Stock is aftermarket (nice piece of wood though) and there have been a couple other mods.

Bolt is not original too, would had been polished if it were factory.

Were there already star gauges in 1921?

Yes, there were ... but they weren't marked on the muzzle crown until 1922, I believe.

Star gauging goes back to late 19th century. Some Krags were star gauged. I don't know if it goes back to Trapdoors and prior.

I was referring to the marking on the muzzle, not the process of measuring the barrel.
