    Could be anywhere really Ardennes or Hurtgen thing is what the G.I's found out the hard way in Hurtgen was if you laid flat as trained to do when the mortars or arty shells were coming in was that nearly all of them burst in the tree tops which increased the beaten zones apart from exposing more of ones body to it. Also the splinters caused by the tree shattering could be just as lethal as the shrapnel, best to hide in a hole or stand upright behind a tree.

    Walking like that, could be anywhere anytime. No combat damage to the area. Might even be in training somewhere.

    Perhaps the telephone lines can give a lead. A pole resting on the left, signs of one on the right top [the box], probably were replaced.

    Looks like a road block cleared from the heaped stuff on each side.

    Road good condition, so no heavy traffic.

    Miserable day.
