    Arisaka type 99

I've had tis arisaka for a long time. It was passed down from my grandfather who fought in the Pacific theater in WWII on a destroyer. I don't know much about it. The mum is ground off, the front sight looks like it has a notch filed in it. Plus I have never seen one where the stock doesn't go almost to the end of the barrel. It looks like there are cut marks on the stock? It also has a bent bolt. I would just like to learn more about it if anyone can help me out. All input is greatly appreciated. Thank you I hope the pictures help

You have what started out as a Type 99 rifle in 7.7x58, made at the Nagoya Army Arsenal (Toriimatsu factory) in the 6th series. Your rifle was made probably in late 1943.

Since being brought home by a relative, it has been heavily sporterized. Your stock originally would have had a full handguard and lower stock would have been almost to muzzle as well. Bolt handle has been bent, etc.....no value in it, but enjoy as a sentimental shooter!
