    1920 Lithgow

Picked up a 1920 Lithgowicon a few days ago. When I got it, it was missing both top hand guards, nosecap, and middle barrel band. Luckily I had the metal bits, and even luckier I was able to find the hand guards. They're not perfect, but will do until I find better ones.
Other than the replaced items, it is a matching rifle. Bolt, receiver, barrel (original, with perfect bore) and buttstock all match, and I think I can see a matching number on the underside of the forestock right at the nosecap.
I was under the impression that after the war, Lithgow went back to MKIII production (cutoff installed) but as you can see, this is a MKIII* (no cutoff).
It is marked 1 over D arrow D.
20s dated Lithgows are getting pretty scarce it seems. Glad to have run across this one. Looking forward to seeing how it does at the range this weekend.

nice find. Think the mid barrel band is the wrong way round. Screw should be on the left side as you are holding in a shooting position.

That rifle has seen some hard days. Looks like it needs some Linseeding . Also I am quite jealous honestly.

Lithgowicon went back to the MkIII (they switched to the MkIII* in 1918) with cutoff about 1924 & continued with it till 1941.

It does look pretty beat up, but looks can be deceiving. The bore is close to pristine, and it had/has a lot of old dried and hardened cosmo on it. Going to put a few rounds through it this weekend, and then give it a thorough cleaning.

Thanks. I thought they did go back to the MKIII, just wasn't sure when.

By total chance today I found what appears to be an original D. Mason and Sons leather sling dated 1941. Should look nice on the Lithgowicon.
