    BAR, I did mention the good old days ... 100 years ago things were decidedly different; static trench warfare certainly lent itself to such. Note the hobnails in the boots, looks like web slings unchanged almost to tdoay, some more resting left middle background.

    Forgive me if I'm saying something really stupid, but couldn't it be a Kiwi 'Lemon Squeezer' hat?
    I just checked a picture on the New Zealandicon army museum web site & it ain't a million miles away from the example shown there.
