    Last ditch safety knob

I have a Izawa Jyuko series 9 last ditch arisaka, that was given to me. The bolt is missing the safety knob and the gun is missing the magazine spring and follower as well. My question, can I use any last ditch safety knob,(spring and follower) our does it have to be arsenal specific?

Welcome to the forum, Spevin. With these sorts of questions it normally helps to post a few photos to illustrate your point because, as they say, "a picture speaks a thousand words".

It's relatively simple to post photos once you've done it a few times.

Since IJ was supervised by Nagoya I would try some late Nagoya parts . Series 8 and 10 are common rifles so the parts are not too hard to find .

Here's a pic. The rifle was coated in cosmolineicon, including the stock. Is this a original stock or sported? Notice the leather butt plate. Another curiosity? No sling attachment.

The rifle has the stock cut off and sanded so much the shape has changed and the sling swivel mounting hole is gone . The buttplate has also been added after the original was removed .

Parts should be interchangeable. Only reason to get arsenal specific would be for collector purposes but that rifle has a lot of issues that more or less make that point moot. Making a shooter pretty easy, restoring it pretty expensive.

Type 99 parts are NOT interchangeable between makers .

Actually they are although some may require some minor fitting. It's done all the time.

Tell us about that join along the butt, someone, please. Was it common practice at the end of the war?

I believe it was common practice throughout production.
