Any idea what this IJN item is?

My dad was on Saipan in 1944. He sent this item home and called it a kimono. It is definately not a kimono. (too large) Looking to find its purpose. Any ideas or outlets I can contact to find out more information? Contact me at mark.moersch@sbcglobal.net

if i had to take a guess, i would assume that it is a Japaneseicon Alter cloth to a Butsudan of kamidana alter. To over simplify things, it's a table cloth that goes over a small table and a wooden cabinet would sit on top of the table and sit on top of the three inside tabs of cloth to hold it on. alters are usually against a wall thus why it's only three sided.
