Calling all British Lend Lease M1s.

Hi there everyone I recently picked up a deactivated rifle in UK which turned out to be a Britishicon Lend Lease. Could not believe it.*
Anyway myself and some friends have decides to create a Facebook group with the aim of working towards creating a master list of all British Lend Lease M1icon rifles which we come across.

You can find the group on Facebook at:

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/2395401994104009/

If you are not Facebook Savvy but would lke to take part please PM or email me at*swnisbet@gmail.com*with a pic of your rifle serial nunber along with the British Lend Lease Stamps -

    1. Barrel on right side at date or left sode in front of front Handguard.*
    2. Bolt on top (No matter how small markings) on right lug or at the front near the centre of the bolt.*
    3. Receiver ring above chamber area.
    4. Any evidence of red paint.
    5. Any black Sunkorite paint finish which maybe left on your M1.

    6. Please give as many pics or as clear a description of all the parts your m1 has including codes and any data sheets which you may have created.*

So far we have collected the following data for 74 BLLs:

    London Proof

Here is a rifle in the 52K serial number range with a London Proof S-A 8-40 dated barrel.

Also the GCAicon records have a serial number 7860 rifle that is a direct conversion from gas trap to gas port and with a S-A 8-40 dated barrel and also with London Proofs.

Would these be considered to be Lend Lease rifles ? (I have doubts)

Hi mate. That particular stamp is the London Proof House stamp on the barrel. And unsure about the LL status. Does it have any other stamps on the bolt or receiver ring?

There is the consideration that some rifles went back to SA to be re-barrelled with the new gas port system and so the arises the idea/possibility that they went over with the BLL ones in the first or even later batches.

    Thank you!

    Scott

Scott. There are photos of a London proofed M1icon on the CMPicon site, the rear section of the barrel has the London proofs behind the S-A-11-41 barrel date. Close-up photo of bolt
and receiver do not show proof stamp. Also have a data sheet on 386161 London proofs on S-A-10-41 barrel same as above, no other proofs.

On s/n 7860 with London proofed S-A-8-40 being a direct conversion, a very detailed data sheet shows nothing about proofs on bolt or receiver ring.

Years ago the advanced M1 collectors only collected the Birmingham BNP stamped near the barrel date with the letter indicating year of import which covered 1941 to early 1942

It looks right from what I can see. There are lots of small marks to be looking for, like the stamp proofs around barrel ring and bolt. They look like a splotch in many cases. Is there an inspector's cartouche on the left side of the stock? I can't make one out. No front sight seal? Not unusual for it to be gone.

Unfortunately the stock looks to have been refinished. Part of a large cannon cartouche is present, kind of guessing of the other stuff you asked about.

    Thanks for the feedback

Yes, those dimples are what I spoke of. Until I was told, I didn't know what they represented, mine were just smash marks. Yes, single slot gas cylinder lock screw...I'd liquid strip the varnish off and no sanding but you can't get back what's gone. Looks like a LL to me.
