M49 Persian Mauser - Restoration Project?

Have a chance to purchase an M49 Persian Carbine, or at least, whats left of it, for a very good price. Metal shows light surface rust, bore is dirty but shiny and the stock looks original & very good condition. Now for the bad news; its missing a lot of parts, namely, the complete bolt, trigger guard assembly with lifter & spring, butt plate, plus miscellaneous screws.

I understand that this is probably a Czechicon manufacture, perhaps even an Iranian mfg. Have been told that a vz24 bolt will fit this rifle, but the original bolt had a turned-down handle, whereas all replacement bolts I see have a straight handle. Do not know if a standard vz24 trigger guard assembly will fit. I'm know that to try & find all original parts for this may be like looking for a "needle in a haystack", so I'm just thinking on finding parts for this gun that will allow it to shoot and at least look presentable (even though non-matching or original parts)

From what I've seen in searches, I anticipate spending $400 + for parts that will probably only make it a non-original shooter at best. So my question is, is it worth it?

Appreciate any and all comments. Thanks, --728shooter

It depends on the average value of a Persian Mauser in the States.
Here I can find one in perfect conditions (long rifle, model. 29) from 600 € upwards, but mine, for example, cost me less a couple years ago. Brand new!
So, to be sincere, I don't think it would be worth it, although the carbine might be worth more. But as an original.

Kind of depends on how much you're paying for the rifle. If more than $100, I'd say no, not worth it. You'll have $500 into a non matching rifle that while desirable in original condition, not so much in a miss matched rifle. $400 seems to be an awful lot for parts though, you sure on that? $125 max for a bolt, trigger guard assemblies are around $40. Any 98 style rifle parts should work. the rest of the stuff shouldn't add up to another $75 I would think.

Have seen some M49's in 95+% condition, all matching, all original, having sold for $600-$900+...Blue Book value for the same gun is about $500-$600 (all prices U.S. $) I figure that a non-original, non-matching refurbished one would be worth about half those amounts, so I guess I just answered my own question. Kind of a neat looking little carbine, though, but not worth investing more than $300 in costs to buy it & fix it.... Bummer!

Thanks to all for helping me put this into proper perspective! --728shooter
