Like you say Gil, "gumming up an Enfield action" ... What total and complete Rollocks!

What did they 'gum' it up with, quick drying cement mixed with steel pins??

Few other things would stop James Paris Lee's action from working as intended....

    John,
Those comments came from a well known author who put it in one of his books. (non Military man)

I did challenge him personally about the statement before I wrote the book, which he alluded were Para's (which made my blood boil) who did it, and he couldn't remember where he had heard it or who told him...............yep rollocks I'm afraid, and now I've said it on here, as and when you come across it in the future, you will know the truth, as stated by ALL the snipers with L42A1 rifles in the war, including SAS/SBS/RM/GURKHAS/PARAS/WELSH GDS/SCOTS GDS who I interviewed.

"More than their lives are worth losing their issue sniper rifle"
'Tonight my men and I have been through hell and back again, but the look on your faces when we let you out of the hall - we'd do it all again tomorrow.' Major Chris Keeble's words to Goose Green villagers on 29th May 1982 - 2 PARA
